Back pain – a widespread disease
One of the so-called common diseases nowadays is back pain (lower back pain). It is the most common disease of modern society, although in general people today do much less strenuous physical work than before.
But that is actually where the problem really lies!
It should read: “Because people do less physical work”!
Our spine needs movement and strong back muscles so as to be able to protect our spine from pain.
Now that’s the snag!
The widespread lack of regular exercise is the number one cause of back pain! In addition, there are many other reasons, such as doing our work sitting down for hours on end, or sitting at home to relax in front of the television, playing computer games, doing computer work, social media activities and so on.
This has caused many of us being so much troubled by back pain that coping with everyday movements in everyday activities and life gets increasingly hard, especially when this pain additionally deprives us of our necessary sleep and rest at night.
Back Pain Causes
- Bad posture
- Lack of exercise
- Disc damage
- Scoliosis
- Osteoporosis
- Cramps
- Overweight
- Psychosomatic problems
- Indigestion problems
Different kinds of back pain, such as:
- Lumbago: The Lumbago which suddenly occurs in the area of the lumbar spine
- Lumbar pain: persistent pain in the lumbar spine
- Sciatica: pain from the back that radiates to the leg or even to the feet
- Lumboischialgie: low back pain and leg pain
We differentiate between acute back pain, which usually occurs suddenly and strongly, and chronic back pain, which lasts for more than six months.
An acute back pain can become chronic back pain if nothing is done to adjust any of the above mentioned causes. By all means, this is something we should make an effort to prevent.
The latest findings teach us not to “endure” the pain or “learn to live with it” until we can no longer cope with it, but instead to treat it in an early stage to prevent the muscles from becoming noticeably tense.
What options are there to treat low back pain?
In other words: how can we compensate our continues lack of movement!
Doing sports or simple exercises is one of the most essential methods to both prevent and remedying back problems. Even now, during the Coronavirus quarantine, in many cases it may not be possible to attend sport facilities in order to socially distance ourselves and prevent the virus to spread more, however, it is recommended to make it a regular habit to start exercising at home.
Besides from causing back pain, it also makes us more susceptible to psychosomatic disorders. A relaxation massage with essential oils can do so much good to soothe sore muscles.
