Remedy Winter Damage with Natural Argan Oil

PIC1 1So, the end of winter is finally in sight with spring patiently waiting just around the corner. As we get ready to discard our winter essentials and put our hair out on display more, let’s see how it has really held up during the harsh winter conditions.

Winter is notorious for literally sucking the life out of our hair. Cold generally means dry heat – central heating, electric fires, car heaters – depleting our hair of moisture. Run your hands through your hair. Is it feeling dry, brittle? Take a closer look in the mirror. Is it dull? Looking lifeless? Worse still are there split ends?  Perhaps your scalp is also looking and feeling the worse for wear with dry flaky skin?

Argan Oil may just be the answer to restore winter damaged hair. This miracle oil has been used for the hair and skin in its native Morocco for centuries and in recent years has taken the world by storm. There’s practically nothing that Argan Oil can’t do for the hair which is why you’ll find it listed as an ingredient in all types of hair care products. It can help to replenish, strengthen, restore and preserve the health and shine of your hair.

What are the Benefits of Argan Oil for hair?

PIC2 1Argan Oil deeply nourishes the scalp and roots, balances sebum production and restores the pH level of the hair. It promotes a healthy scalp and protects against conditions like dandruff and dermatitis. This hair saviour penetrates the cortex to nourish the hair shaft, helping to repair damage from within, regenerating the cells, strengthening the hair, promoting elasticity and forming a protective layer around each strand helping to treat, as well as protect against, brittleness, breakage and split ends. It accelerates the production of keratin, stimulating hair growth and protecting against hair fall and loss. Argan Oil will leave the hair soft, smooth, shiny and manageable and is ideal for curly, textured hair.  Use it as a pre-wash conditioning oil, a leave-in conditioner before heat styling or to reduce frizz, and as a styling product to define curls.

Why is Argan Oil the Solution for Winter ravaged hair?

Extracted from the kernels of the Moroccan argan tree, argan oil is exceedingly rich in nutrients, including vitamins E and C, carotenoids (vitamin A), oleic and linoleic fatty acids (omega-9 and omega-6, palmitic acid,  stearic acid, ferulic acid, polyphenols, phytosterols, triterpene alcohols, in addition to squalene, a natural and powerful antioxidant. It’s the perfect solution to get your winter damaged hair back into shape for spring. So what can it do for you and how can you use it?

THE BENEFITS OF ARGAN OIL ON WINTER DAMAGED HAIR

 Argan Oil Moisturises and Conditions

PIC3 1Argan oil is extremely rich in vitamin E and oleic and linoleic acids which prevent dryness and balance oil production in the hair. The oil soaks deeply into the hair and helps to strengthen the hair, seal the cuticle and split ends and soften brittle ends to prevent splitting. It effectively locks in moisture and prevents damage from environmental factors. Argan Oil helps to detangle the hair to prevent damage from combing, and leaves the hair soft, smooth, shiny and manageable, preventing a bad hair day!

How to use

  • Keep hair in tip-top condition by applying an overnight conditioning mask once a week as an intensive hydrating and conditioning treatment. It will also help to regenerate chemically treated hair. Simply apply to damp hair and wrap your hair in a microfibre towel to protect your pillow. Wash out in the morning with your usual shampoo.
  • Use it as a pre-wash conditioning oil by applying 30 minutes before washing the hair. Apply well to the scalp and hair, cover with a towel or shower cap, and rinse out after 30 minutes using your normal shampoo.
  • Alternatively use as a a leave-in conditioner on freshly washed, towel dried hair, particularly if you have coarse or curly hair. Place a few drops into the palm of your hand, rub the palms together and finger comb the hair to evenly distribute the oil, concentrating more on the ends. Allow to soak in and then style as usual.

PIC4 1 Argan Oil Eliminates Dullness and Restores Gloss

The cold weather, wind, bundling the hair into hats, dehydration caused by dry heat such as central heating and car heaters and other factors can damage the cuticle, the outer layer of the hair. Whereas healthy cuticles lay flat and smooth and reflect light to look shiny, a damaged cuticle does not lay flat and makes the hair appear dull and lifeless. Argan oil can nourish and revitalise the hair, eliminating damage, dryness and coarseness, sealing the cuticles to keep them flat and smooth and restoring a healthy gloss to the hair.

How to use

  • Place a few drops into the palm of your hand, rub the palms together and finger comb the hair to evenly distribute the oil, working from the roots to the ends of the hair in order to follow the natural direction of the cuticles and seal them flat. Allow to soak in and then style as usual.

Argan Oil Nourishes the Scalp & Prevents Dandruff

The nourishing and hydrating effects of argan oil combined with its anti-inflammatory properties can help to treat and prevent dandruff, itching and a build-up of dead skin cells. It also increases blood circulation.

How to use

  • Massage directly into the scalp, either as a pre-wash or overnight treatment.

Argan Oil Prevents Styling Damage

PIC5 1Now that the colder weather is past and the hair will no longer be covered in hats or will possibly no longer be pulled back in a pony tail to prevent it being blown about by the wind, it’s likely that you’ll be styling it more regularly which undoubtedly means some sort of heat treatment, be it with a hairdryer, straighteners or hair curlers. Applying heat directly to the hair is one of the most damaging things that you can do it it but argan oil is ready to come to the rescue as a superb heat protectant and can help to prevent permanent damage occurring. Argan oil will enrich the hair with essential nutrients and gently coat each strand and help to smooth the cuticles, thus allowing for easy detangling of the hair to stop breakage from brushing or combing, as well as minimising direct heat on the actual hair strand. As a styling agent it will also leave the hair soft, smooth, glossy and ultimately more manageable.

How to use

  • Place a few drops into the palm of your hand, rub the palms together and finger comb the hair to evenly distribute the oil. Allow to soak in and then style as required. Use on freshly washed, towel-dried hair or on dry hair between washes.

 Argan Oil Fights Frizz

PIC6 1As much as we may be anticipating the warmer weather of spring, we can’t ignore the fact that it also brings lots of rain which inevitable brings another problem – frizz! Frizz occurs when the water gets under the hair’s cuticle and the hair starts to swell lifting the cuticle so that it no longer lays flat which results in that unruly look we refer to as frizz. Luckily for us, argan oil has hydrophobic (water-repelling) properties that allow it to create a barrier to repel unwanted water and keep the cuticles flat, thus keeping the hair smooth and frizz-free. Best of all, unlike most frizz fighting solutions available which contain silicone, argan oil is completely natural and lightweight and will not weigh down the hair or dry it out.

How to use

  • Place a few drops into the palm of your hand, rub the palms together and finger comb the hair to evenly distribute the oil. Allow to soak in and then style as required. Use on freshly washed, towel-dried hair or on dry hair between washes.
  • Alternatively, calm frizz by adding a few drops of argan oil to a small spray bottle filled with water to spray and smooth the hair as required.
