Of all skin types, oily skin is the most problematic. Signs of oily skin include an oily shine, the presence of enlarged pores, comedones and various inflammations. The appearance of oily skin on the forehead, nose and chin often resembles an orange peel. More oily skin is usually caused by (over)active sebaceous glands, which means that more sebum is produced. This can be genetic as well as the result of any problems in the body. The most common causes are hormonal imbalance, unhealthy diet, gastrointestinal disturbance, stress, lack of sleep, but also incorrect skin care.
Owners of oily skin usually avoid oils in cosmetics, believing that they all clog pores and turn an already oily face into an oily mask. But not every oil has that effect on oily skin, some oils can assist to perfectly remove sebum and even acne. We will tell you which oils are best to use in the care of oily skin.
The right selection of oils can magically alter the skin’s pH and sebum composition. Oily skin tends to have a slightly alkaline environment, which is ideal for the growth of bacteria that cause acne and blemishes. Natural plant-based oils contain linoleic and linolenic fatty acids, which increase the skin’s pH. The more acidic environment can cause bacteria and germs to be eliminated.
When caring for oily skin, pay attention to those oils that are easily absorbed by the skin and do not leave an oily shine. This skin needs oils that narrow pores, normalize sebum production and restore acid-base balance. It is preferable to choose non-comedogenic oils capable of preventing various skin conditions.
Some natural and essential oils are suitable for this purpose. Natural oils contain many vitamins and minerals that fight inflammation and premature ageing of the skin.
